From e-Passports to Financial Access for Foreigners: Lumin Soft, in Partnership with Azimut Egypt, Enters the FRA Sandbox!

The Financial Regulatory Authority FRA has granted initial approval to Lumin Soft to join the FRA Sandbox with an innovative digital identity verification solution — eKYC using ePassports (“eNROLL”).

This enables electronic identity verification for foreigners using NFC-enabled ePassports, allowing access to services across Egypt’s Non-Bank Financial Sector, including insurance, investment, brokerage, and other financial services. The initiative introduces a secure digital onboarding pathway for foreigners holding biometric passports with NFC.

Through the FRA Sandbox, Lumin Soft will conduct live testing of digital identity creation using ePassports in collaboration with Azimut investments-Egypt ازيموت للاستثمارات-مصر, enabling the Authority to assess the solution’s reliability and security within a controlled environment.

Dr. Islam Abdel Azim Azzam, Chairman of FRA, highlighted that enabling advanced digital mechanisms for verifying foreigners’ identities represents an important step toward facilitating foreign investors’ access to Egypt’s financial market and supporting foreign investment flows. Adopting advanced technological solutions reflects Egypt’s direction toward strengthening its position as a regional fintech hub.
Eng. Ahmed Khalifa, Executive Director of the FRA Sandbox & Chief Data Officer, noted that the project demonstrates how technology can enhance access to financial services and strengthen the competitiveness of the non-bank financial sector.
From the industry, Eng. Ahmed Sarhan , Chairman of Lumin Holding, described this initial approval as an important milestone, highlighting its collaboration with Azimut Egypt to enable digital identity creation via ePassports.
