It was a pleasure to have Eng. Ahmed Khalifa represent the Financial Regulatory Authority FRA of Egypt through the FRA Sandbox at the OECD - OCDE - RCE Roundtable on Banking and Capital Markets in Africa, held in hashtag#Mauritius — a landmark event gathering policymakers and experts from across the continent to discuss the future of financial market development in Africa.

In the Panel on Harnessing Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Financial Inclusion and Capital Market Development in Africa, discussions explored how emerging technologies can drive inclusion, improve capital allocation, and reshape financial ecosystems.
Eng. Ahmed Khalifa shared FRA’s approach to fostering responsible AI adoption through the FRA Sandbox, emphasizing data governance and regulatory experimentation to promote safe and inclusive financial innovation, while outlining steps the FRA is taking to leverage AI applications to enhance efficiency, inclusion, and market integrity.

The panel was moderated by Iota - Kaousar Nassr, Senior Policy Analyst, Capital Markets and Financial Institutions Division, OECD, and featured:
Muuka Madubeko, Assistant Director, Payment Systems Department and Operations, Bank of Zambia; Glen Sampson (MBA, awaiting DBA conferment), People Director – Talent Management and Member, AI Working Group, Onafriq; and Prof. Keith Straughan, Professor of Global Entrepreneurship and Digital Technology, Carnegie Mellon University – Africa.
